  1. Does Sigma Mu Omega participate in formal sorority recruitment?
  2. Currently we do not participate in formal recruitment, thus we have our own schedule and events for recruitment.  Our process is fairly relaxed and a lot of fun!

  3. Is Sigma Mu Omega affiliated with a national sorority?
  4. Currently Sigma Mu Omega is its own entity, operating as a local sorority only at the University of Oregon. This has a lot of advantages for our sorority and its members. We get to truly create our future for our organization by creating our own goals, events, and even our own traditions and rituals. This means that there are a lot of amazing opportunities for members to get involved and make a large impact on this sorority.

Although we are not an official member of Panhellenic Council, as associate members, we still have the opportunity to be involved with UO Greek Life, as well as the other Greek events on campus, similar to other sororities.

  5. Does Sigma have a house?
  6. As of now, we are unhoused.  We hold meetings in a regular room set up by the University of Oregon and hold activities and events in a variety of welcoming locations, such as Oregon Hillel.  Though we are looking for a house for a few of our members to live in for next year, which will be used for committee meetings and some events. This house will not be required to live in, but rather a great place for Sigmas to meet up, relax, and have as a closed meeting space.

  7. How much does it cost to be in Sigma Mu Omega?
  8. The dues we require all members and pledges to pay go toward our activities and functions.  We do not collect the money for profit.  Our dues are very low compared to other sororities primarily because we are unhoused and are not affiliated with a national sorority.  Typically, dues for our chapter are around $140 per term, though that number is subject to change with the number of events we hold.

  9. Are all your members Jewish and do I have to be Jewish to join?
  10. No, not all of our members are Jewish and no, you do not have to be Jewish to join.  We do not exclude potential new members based on religion.  We do ask, however, that all our members, both Jewish and non-Jewish, respect the Jewish faith and attend all required religious events.
